Multiple Sclerosis – Our Multiple Sclerosis Center serves a population of more than 4,000 MS patients with the largest group of African American patients in the country. It is designated by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as a Center for Comprehensive MS Care. The center treats patients with MS and a wide range of related diseases, such as neuromyelitis optica, transverse myelitis, optic neuritis, central nervous system (CNS) vasculitis, lupus and Sjogren’s syndrome, and neurosarcoidosis. Our highly experienced MS physicians are routinely recognized on “Best Doctors” lists.
Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and other inherited nerve disorders – Wayne Health providers are internationally renowned for expertise in treating Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a group of inherited disorders causing nerve damage in the arms and legs, as well as other inherited peripheral nervous disorders, movement disorders and dementias.
Comprehensive Epilepsy Center – A Level 4 center, accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers, offers a wide variety of medical and surgical treatments for patients with refractory epilepsy disorders, and provides sub-specialty care for pregnant women with epilepsy and epilepsy in the elderly.
Neuro-Critical Care – The neuro-critical care team, vascular neurologists and neuro-interventionalists provide exceptional care for traumatic brain injury, status epilepticus, stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage, in addition to other acute neurological diseases.

Translational Neuroscience Research Initiative – The goal of this program is to recruit highly talented researchers and inspire interdisciplinary investigations that focus on cutting edge clinical and basic neuroscience studies.
Epilepsy Research – Interests include management of status epilepticus, unique mechanisms of seizure detection, seizure safety and education, and epilepsy in special populations, including pregnant females, elderly and those with other neurological conditions.
Multiple Sclerosis Research – Wayne Health faculty at Wayne State University are world leaders in Multiple Sclerosis research and have many clinical trials available. Research conducted at WSU’s state-of-the art Image Processing and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) laboratories focuses on the use of novel technology to better understand the loss of nerve tissue and find new therapeutic approaches.
