Meet the provider: Charles Lucas, M.D.

September 29, 2021

Charles Lucas, M.D., has been with Wayne Health for quite some time. His interests in surgery include critical care, trauma, acute care surgery and different types of malignancies.

Dr. Lucas did his undergraduate training at the University of Detroit and his medical school training at Wayne State University. He did his surgical residency, which he completed in 1967, at Wayne State University. He enjoys working with the Metro Detroit community as he was born and raised in Detroit and loves its people. Dr. Lucas chose surgery because it provided him an opportunity to obtain cognitive and psychomotor skills for the health of patients.

Dr. Lucas practices medicine that is directed to the patient’s best interest. Whenever he talks to a patient prior to surgery, it’s important to him to recognize them as being similar to himself, with the exception that the patient has a surgical problem which needs to be treated with skill and dignity. His patients have taught him more about life and the importance of maintaining relationships.

Dr. Lucas’ greatest pride so far in his career is providing comprehensive, loving care to his patients. He is happy that his career in surgery has allowed him to provide patient care, and contribute to the surgical literature and to the teaching of future surgeons.

In his free time, Dr. Lucas enjoys playing tennis.
