Meet the provider: Christopher Mann, M.D.
April 14, 2021
Christopher Mann, M.D., department of Family Medicine, joined Wayne Health in August 2020.
Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Mann has special interests in women’s health, LGBTQ+ health, men’s health, pediatrics, mood disorders and preventive care.
In joining Wayne Health, he formed a strong bond with the people of the City of Detroit and southeast Michigan, admiring their diversity, vibrance and resilience. He wanted to become a part of the resurgence of the city and surrounding areas by being a source of healing and comfort for residents of local communities.
Dr. Mann enjoys hearing the stories of his patients and sharing his experiences as a newly-settled Detroiter. He endorses Wayne Health’s community-based mission and considers it a privilege to serve vulnerable populations of the city and southeast Michigan by providing high-quality primary care. He also gives back to the local community by serving as an instructor for Wayne State University medical students.
Dr. Mann attended the University of Michigan for his undergraduate education and received his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine. At the University of Michigan, he learned the fundamentals of science and medicine; at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, he was provided with intense medical training that opened his eyes to the humanity behind medicine.
A typical day in Family Medicine for Dr. Mann is hardly typical. He will have telehealth visits with patients, and provide well-child checks, diabetes follow-ups, musculoskeletal consults, depression medication management, birth control counseling, laceration repairs, and much more within just one morning. He enjoys being busy, but focuses on listening to his patients and working together with them as a team. He makes decisions with his patients, not for his patients. With Dr. Mann, patients can always expect a respectful, two-way conversation about their health, regardless of their background or medical history.
Dr. Mann’s patients have taught him the value of trust. Without trust, there can be no true therapeutic relationship. If there is no investment in a relationship with a patient by the provider, there will not be any meaningful progress. He believes that every person deserves to be treated with dignity, respect and understanding. He also believes it is important for physicians to never forget that a patient’s home situation, relationships, occupation and life circumstances are all interwoven into their well-being.
In his free time, Dr. Mann loves playing, watching and discussing the game of soccer. He also enjoys reading, riding his bike, walking in historic neighborhoods and finding unique secondhand, antique furniture and decor. On top of that, he is a huge foodie who enjoys Detroit’s amazing restaurants and various cuisines.
