Meet the provider: Darius Mehregan, M.D.

Darius Mehregan, M.D., department of Dermatology, joined Wayne Health in 1994 as a volunteer faculty member and a part-time staff member at the Allen Park Veterans Administration hospital. Dr. Mehregan enjoys all aspects of dermatology, but specializes in dermatopathology, the study of skin diseases at a microscopic and molecular level.
Dr. Mehregan received both his undergraduate degree and medical school training at the University of Michigan. He completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Michigan followed by a dermatology residency at Mayo Clinic and a dermatopathology fellowship at New York University School of Medicine.
Dr. Mehregan’s father inspired him to specialize in dermatology as he was a dermatologist and dermatopathologist himself. His father was a member of the Wayne State University Department of Dermatology from 1964 until his death in 2001.
A typical day for Dr. Mehregan involves reading slides in the morning, and seeing patients, reading slides, or going to Wayne State meetings in the afternoon. He enjoys learning about the Metro Detroit community from his patients, who keep him aware of all the fun events happening in the city. From working in such a diverse community, Dr. Mehregan has learned to adapt his medical knowledge and skills to care for the individual needs of each patient. He understands that people of different skin types have unique dermatology issues, and that the presentation of skin diseases in different skin types also varies.
Dr. Mehregan has an unusual perspective in practicing medicine. Before coming to Detroit, he practiced medicine in the small town of Monroe, MI. He initially brought the Mayo Clinic way of doings things to Monroe, and now brings a small-town approach to patient care in Detroit. His patients have taught him there is no “right” way to treat a disease as each person is different.
As a WSU faculty member teaching medical students and residents, Dr. Mehregan is especially proud of all his trainees who are practicing in the Detroit area.
In his free time, Dr. Mehregan enjoys downhill skiing, water skiing, biking and triathlons. He will be competing in his first Ironman Triathlon in July 2021.
