Meet the Provider: Jinping Xu, M.D.

Jinping Xu, M.D., department of Family Medicine, is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Xu has been in the department for over 20 years.

Dr. Xu has special interests in chronic disease management, pediatrics, preventive medicine and women’s health. She is a seasoned physician and expert in managing complex patients with multiple chronic health problems in both pediatric and adult patients. Her patient care philosophy is providing patient-centered, comprehensive and coordinated continuity of care for her patients from newborn to geriatric age.

Dr. Xu completed her medical residency at the University of Illinois – Chicago and earned a master’s of science degree in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis from the University of Michigan. Dr. Xu is an accomplished physician-scientist with research expertise in cancer epidemiology, patient-physician shared decision-making and primary care practice-based research.

Dr. Xu is currently the interim chair of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences as well as a member of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute’s Population Studies and Prevention Program. Since 2017, Dr. Xu has served as the director of MetroNet, a primary care practice-based research network in Metro Detroit with goals of supporting evidence-based primary care and reducing racial disparities in health outcomes. Dr. Xu, a teacher for the Wayne State University School of Medicine, has been a teacher for medical students and residents for more than 20 years.

In addition to her education and credentials, Dr. Xu is a native Chinese speaker.

As a board-certified family medicine physician, Dr. Xu sees patients at the Wayne Health Family Medicine Center in Troy, MI.
