Meet the provider: Rohit Marawar, M.D.

March 8, 2022

Rohit Marawar, M.D., Department of Neurology, joined Wayne Health in 2017. His special interests include epilepsy in older adults (elderly), intersection of epilepsy and dementia, and access to epilepsy care.

Dr. Marawar obtained his medical school degree in India. He completed his neurology residency training at Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY and went on to complete a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy at University of California, Los Angeles. He joined Wayne Health because he found the neurology faculty extremely welcoming and felt confident he would have a great support system and mentorship here. Dr. Marawar likes to say “I did not choose neurology but rather neurology chose me”. He was applying widely for residency as an International Medical Graduate and happened to match into neurology. He is very happy that he can call himself a neurologist.

Dr. Marawar’s patients have taught him to be humble and be honest. Sometimes all they need is an ear rather than a hand. He believes in the power to choose (test, treatment) is with the patient. He prefers to be a guide than a guru. He approaches his job as a way to provide information to then help the patients make decisions.

Dr. Marawar won the Best Clinical Faculty Award in 2017 and 2019. He won the School of Medicine Teaching Award in 2019. So far in his career, Dr. Marawar is most proud to have been able to carve a small niche in his specialty without any “godfathers”.

Once a week, Dr. Marawar does a specialized multidisciplinary “Epilepsy in Older Adults” clinic at the University Health Center.

In his free time, Dr. Marawar enjoys reading, cooking, gardening, and doing all these activities with his children.
