March 5, 2022

Dequanna Johnson, F.N.P., Department of Neurology, joined Wayne Health on March 28, 2016. Her special interest in neurology is multiple sclerosis.

Dequanna received her BSN from Oakland University in Rochester Hills, MI in 2010 after taking the buyout from Ford Motor Company. Her MSN came from Walden University, which is physically located in Minnesota, but was completed online. Neurology wasn’t initially her first choice, but once she interviewed and toured the department, she was very interested to be a part of the Wayne Health team. Here, she has grown to love neurology and has become interested in more neurological disorders.

Dequanna really enjoys working with the Metro Detroit community because she is able to educate and expand the community’s knowledge and help them tap into available resources. She thinks Detroit is beautiful, rich in culture, and has so much to offer.

Dequanna wants her patients to know that she understands them and is here to help. She wants her patient to feel comfortable with her, have complete understanding on their course on treatment and to understand the ball starts and stops in their court. Dequanna’s patients have taught her how to listen and pay attention. Each one of her patients are unique and different. They have truly taught her what caring really is and that she was put here to help and serve them.

So far in her career, Dequanna is most proud of making a difference in her patients’ lives. Sometimes her patients come to her for other things outside of neurology. They often tell her that they trust her opinion related to other matters. She prides herself on treating her patients how she would want to be treated.

In her free time, Dequanna loves to craft on her Cricut Machine. She enjoys spending time with her family, especially her best friend and granddaughter Bailey who is two. He also loves to travel and thrift shop.
