Wayne Health Mobile Unit

About WHMU

The Wayne Health Mobile Units represent the future of healthcare, providing ‘care your way, where you live and work,’ with the long-term goal of improving population health outcomes. Our mobile units deliver an ever-expanding menu of health care and social services directly to your neighborhood or place of employment. We are here to help you and we will be there every step of the way.

The Wayne Health Mobile Units are staffed by registered nurses, medical/research assistants, community health workers, patient & family health advocates, and overseen by physicians from the Center of Population Health and Accountability at Wayne Health. Our team offers a variety of free health screenings and services to our patients.

In addition to events hosted by our community partners, the Wayne Health Mobile Unit is bringing medical services right to your door. Our door-to-door teams are canvassing neighborhoods throughout Detroit offering health screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and kidney disease, COVID-19 vaccines, and COVID-19 testing. We also provide linkage to care in partnership with community health workers, as well as access to Mental Health resources. To see if we’ll be in your neighborhood, view our event calendar.

We are reimagining what health care is. It’s bigger than your doctor’s office. Our vision is to show we can deliver care differently and improve long-term health outcomes by going to where people are to address their risk factors.

Patient information

Our goal is to provide care to everyone. To help facilitate this, we do not require identification or insurance for patients who visit a Wayne Health Mobile Unit event. However, if the patients have ID and/or insurance, we will collect that information. Please visit the WHMU event calendar to see if a co-pay is required for the event you are planning to attend. For most events, patients will not receive a bill for health care services provided.

Register via the Wayne Health patient portal prior to the event if possible. If not, we will help register you for a patient portal account at the event.
