Wayne Health Thanks in Roeper School Newsletter

January 12, 2022

My sincere thanks to our friends at Wayne Health and to all of you who attended our free drive through Covid testing opportunity this past Saturday. We tested over 500 individuals and remarkably, only 4.5% of the tests came back positive for Covid-19. Given Oakland County’s 33% positivity rate this past week, that 4.5% number is remarkable.

The care families are taking at home, your commitment to vaccinations, mask wearing, social distancing, daily screening, and other school protocols continue to make a difference in our community.

Thank you to our Lower School families who continue to update their children’s health records when they are vaccinated. More than 50% of our eligible Lower School students have received the Covid vaccine. Close to 90% of our Birmingham students are vaccinated. Please continue to update these records as students receive boosters or complete their initial round of vaccinations. As we update our protocols, vaccination rates will certainly play a role in our decision making.

We know the Omicron variant is highly contagious and that we will certainly continue to deal with Covid cases. We also know that in-person learning can continue as long as we continue to make community wellbeing a priority.

The winter will bring other health challenges with flu, colds, and variety of viruses in addition to Covid. Please continue to keep your children home when they are sick and monitor their symptoms. We can get over this peak in the pandemic by continuing to care for each other and remembering that we are interdependent in this struggle for the health and safety of our community.

We are reviewing the latest information from Michigan Health and Human Services and the CDC and are awaiting an update from Oakland County Public Health on revised Covid protocols. Our leadership team will review this new guidance and, where appropriate, update our protocols. In the interim, please know how grateful we are for your continued care for our community.

Best,

David H. Feldman
