Meet the provider: Roozbeh Mansour, M.D.

September 29, 2021

Roozbeh Mansour, M.D., Department of Surgery, graduated from medical school in Tehran, Iran and did his general surgery residency at Wayne State/DMC in 2015, followed by a minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship in Greenville, SC. He’s been working at Wayne Health since 2016 and has been doing general surgery, trauma and minimally invasive surgery. His special interests are bariatrics, foregut and abdominal wall reconstruction. He has brought novel techniques from open, laparoscopic and robotic to his department. He joined Wayne Health in 2019 and has been doing the same combination of operations. The tolerance, diversity and commitment to the Detroit population is what  brought him to Wayne Health.

After working at a few different clinical settings and health systems, he realized that the most fulfilling time of his career had been the time he took care of patients in Detroit. He finds his colleagues at the Department of Surgery some of the most pleasant people to work with and learn from.

Dr. Mansour has a variety of “typical days”, depending on if he’s covering trauma, or if he has a bariatric day, a robotic day or a challenging abdominal wall that has been deemed inoperable by other surgeons.

It’s not uncommon for him to encounter patients that are rightfully nervous about their situation or the condition of their loved ones. He has learned that he can’t get caught in the technicalities. He cannot look at his surgery patients as a component of his daily job. He and his team have to step back, think about the human in front of them and imagine a family member.

In his free time, Dr. Mansour enjoys all the cultural settings Detroit has to offer, including the DSO, the DIA and the Detroit Opera House. If has extra time left, he enjoys fly fishing on the streams of Northern Michigan or one of its beautiful lakes.
