Wayne Health surgeons are faculty members at the Michael & Marian Ilitch Department of Surgery at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, one of the nation’s top medical schools with a 150-year history of inventing the future of surgical care through:

• Pioneering research in surgical oncology and biomedical engineering. The department is world renowned for having its own ultra-sophisticated biomedical engineering Smart Sensors and Integrated Microsystems (SSIM) Lab where surgeons and engineers work side-by-side inventing the next generations of medical and surgical devices.
• Hosting an annual Detroit Trauma Symposium, the largest, continuously running symposium on trauma medicine in the United States. The symposium centers on interdisciplinary cooperation amongst physicians, nurses and allied health providers, which is a hallmark of a successful, well-coordinated system of trauma care.
• Sponsoring the HealthQuake Summit, an invitation-only gathering of industry and government leaders to discuss the implications of the accelerating convergence of medicine and technology.
